Work Title : Curious Bee and Dandelion

Description of the work:
It
is a story of
a curious bee and dandelions.Click a mouse anywhere to grow a dandelion.Grow
as many as you like and see how the bee plays with them .If you feel like blowing
them away ,go ahead. Use the mouse rollover them...and Enjoy:)!!
Before:
This work is selected from 6 pieces of work I explored during
production of this work.I had a big dilemma choosing between piece no#2 and
no#6. I like the interaction of the bee & flower in piece#2 whist I like
how the flower blows away in many directions in piece#6. You are welcome to
view all of the works and let me know your preference so I can have them improved
in the future.
Inspiration &
process:
I'm
always fascinated with the nature's beauty and interested in storytelling.One
of the favorite things I want to do is to use programing to simulate the
motion/movement of the nature's beauty that inspires me. For my past assignments
, I already tried to simulate the movement of the bee ,I learned how to generate
a flower made up of a plenty of squares which are actually just instances of
the only one symbol . At last ,I learned how to use sliders to find the settlings
I like the most. For this work, I want to continue using the benefit of
sliders and I would like to combine everything I learned from the class and
pass assignments. I embeded each flower in each the movie clip as I thought
this is the way I can make use of many of them .Unfortunately when I have
many flower movie clips, this work makes my computer run extremely slow. This
is my first time my flash work really put me to concern about the speed. I learned
to change my code to make it run a little faster. By doing so ,I lost some nice
effects I made in previous work but, I learned how to manipulate the movie clip
to make up of the effects I lost. Trying to find the interaction between
one bee and many flowers is one of the hardest parts.Interaction between flowers
and users is what I found important and inviting to the users.
When we think of Dandelions, we might think of the delicate feathery balls that children love to pick and blow sending countless little parachute to the wind. In my story, I leave it on the audience whether they will imagine the bee accidentally blows the flower away or he just wanna have fun blowing it.You can make your own story from viewing my work.
